Two teenagers arrested following firearms incident

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a firearms incident in Bury St Edmunds last week.

Police were called at 4.20pm on Friday 11 September to reports that a handgun had been pointed at a bus driver in Out Risbygate.

Armed police officers arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and two teenage boys were arrested a short time later. An imitation firearm was also located and seized.

The two suspects – aged 17 and 16 – were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and subsequently released on bail until Thursday 5 November pending further enquiries.

Inspector Ben Hollands, of Bury St Edmunds Community Policing Team, said: “We appreciate this incident will have caused alarm and distress to the victim and a number of other people and I am grateful to the officers who attended for resolving it swiftly and safely.

“There will be a police presence in the area today to provide additional reassurance and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to the officers.”
